Elias Mphande, was the National Organising Secretary of the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union from 1990 to 1995. He was CEO of AUTA from 1996 to 2000; Marketing Director of Viamax Fleet Solutions, from 2001 to 2005, CEO of the Vukani Group from 2006 to 2010 and Chairman of Golden Arrow Bus Services. He was appointed to the HCI board in September 2010 and also serves on Tsogo Investment Holdings, Vukani Gaming Corporation and eMedia Holdings board.

Makhosazana Sibisi, Non-Executive Director of HCI Coal (Pty) Ltd since 2015, is the Chief Executive Officer of Water Bearer Resources (Pty) Ltd and Water Bearer Sustainable Development (Pty) Ltd, which provides advisory and consulting services to mining-related sectors. She also serves as Advisory Board Member of Ori Professionals (Pty) Ltd. She has also been appointed as a Patron of Women in Mining South Africa.

John Copelyn, Non-Executive Director of HCI Coal (Pty) Ltd, joined Hosken Consolidated Investments Ltd (HCI) as Chief Executive Officer in 1997. Prior to this, he was a Member of Parliament and General Secretary of the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union. He is Chairman of e.tv, eMedia Holdings Ltd, Tsogo Investment Holdings Ltd and the HCI Foundation.

Russell Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of HCI Coal (Pty) Ltd, joined Hosken Consolidated Investments Ltd (HCI) when the group acquired Johnnic Holdings Ltd in 2006. He serves on the boards of various HCI subsidiaries, including Johnnic Holdings, Tsogo Investment Holdings Ltd and Gallagher Estates Holdings Ltd.

Jabulani Ngcobo, Non-Executive Director of HCI Coal (Pty) Ltd since 2004, was the Regional Secretary for Africa of the International Textile Garment and Leather Workers Federation from 1999 to 2006. Prior to this appointment, he was General Secretary of the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union from 1994 to 1999. He also serves on the board of Tsogo Investment Holdings Ltd and Hosken Consolidated Investments Ltd (HCI).

Eddie Scholtz, Non-Executive Director of HCI Coal (Pty) Ltd was appointed to the board as a director in 2008. He is the former President and Chief Operating Officer of BHP Ltd.
